Last season, Duncanville won its first state title since 1998 by defeating North Shore 28-21 in the Class 6A Division I championship. The two have met in finals four times in the past five years, with the Mustangs winning three of the four.

The Panthers welcome back a surplus of stud players, including four-star inning back Caden Durham (LSU), four-star cornerback Ka’Davion Dotson -Walker, 2025 cornerback Javion Holiday (Texas A&M), defensive lineman Alex January (Texas), 2025 five-star receiver Dakorien Moore, and five-star edge Colin Simmons (Texas). Also, junior-to-be quarterback Keelon Russell passed for over 2,300 during the championship season.

North Shore is not accustomed to the rearview after winning three of the four Class 6A Division I title versus Duncanville. However, it holds down the No. 2 ranking. The Mustangs will depend on junior quarterback Kaleb Bailey who suffered a torn ACL last season. At his disposal, receivers Christopher Barnes and Deion Deblanc are talented.

Two teams to watch, No. 3 DeSoto and No. 5 Westfield. Both are loaded and will meet the top teams when the Eagles host Duncanville in a district battle on October 27, 2023. Westfield will look to avenge one of the worst whippings (55-25) in school history when it hosts arch-rival North Shore on September 08, 2023.
