Brenham heads to state baseball tournament for record 16th time


Klein sweeps district rival to return to Round Rock
After going hitless all evening Reese Jefferies singled home the winning run in the top of the seventh inning to give Klein a 3-2 victory over district rival Klein Oak in game one of the Class 5A Region II Finals at Cougar Filed Thursday evening.
With the win the Bearkats lead series 1-0 with game two slated for Friday at 2:00 pm.  A Klein win would return the state finalist back to Round Rock for a second straight year.
Klein Oak led the game 2-1 going into the seventh inning but after starting pitcher Chris Thompson left the game with only thrown 77 pitches is when the game got away.
Evan Rutter (13-1) got the win
 In game two Cory Ray blanked Klein Oak 5-0 to give the Klein Bearkats a return trip to Round Rock
In Class 4A, Baseball rich Brenham Cubs will be making a record 16th trip the state tournament as they punched their ticket to Round Rock, 10 run ruling Magnolia 10-0 in six innings of game three of the best-of-three series in the Class 4A Region III Finals at Mumford Field on Saturday night.
Magnolia won game two 3-2 after losing game one 10-2 to force the rubber match.  For the Cubs it marked the third series that lasted three games.
The defending state champs; Brenham (36-7-1), the No. 1 ranked team in class 4A is headed back to Round Rock for the third consecutive season in search of their eighth crown.   Right now the Cubs stand tied with Bellaire and South San Antonio with seven.
