Aldine Nimitz Earn First Trip to the State Tournament

The lady cougars are Austin bound after trouncing the Bellaire Cardinals 45-26 Saturday afternoon at the Campbell Center. The first trip of its kind.
This was also the 5th regional final appearance in the schoolbs history.
The lady cougars 36-1 and ranked number 1 in the state picked up their lone loss from Dulles earlier in the year. But they got the win that would send them to state for a chance to play for a title.
Griner led the way with 22 points and 7 blocks for the cougars. She had no problem finding the basket down inside as well as being a defensive presents. Bellaire used a double team on Griner most of the evening that was of little effect.
Nimitz also got help from their attacking style and up temple play which produce some fouls. Guards Chrishauna Parker, Jessica Diamond and Sade Kelly penetrated through and around the cardinals defense drawing fouls.
Even though points were hard to come by, the cougars built 7 point lead after one quarter of play, 11-4.
In the second quarter early on is where the cardinals mounted their best run of the game. Annette Davis hit a three pointer to tie the game at 13 with 3:35 to go in the third quarter. But that was as close as they would get.
A terrible shooting evening doomed the cardinals. The cardinals were off target shot after shot, which ultimately led to their down fall.
The cougars took a 10 point halftime lead, 23-13.
In the second half Nimitz led by as many as 21 points at one time in the game.
