Four area teams from last year return to the Class 5A Region II and III Semifinals. Brazoswood, Clements, Klein, Memorial all have something in common, they all look to go a step or two farther than they did last season.
Klein will join district rival Klein Oak in Region II. After missing the playoffs in 2010, the Panthers had to endure a six team district race to share the district title with Klein while gaining the top seed going into the post season. Oak will face Dallas Jesuit, Friday at Baylor at 5 pm in game 1.
If the Bearkats of Klein are to make it back to the state finals they will need to get passed Garland Rowlett.
Last year’s Region III Champion, Clements Rangers advanced to Round Rock after sweeping Memorial 7-5, 4-2 in what some thought was a bit of a surprise. The Rangers road took a dead end in the state semis when they came up short, 4-3 against eventual state champion Corpus Christi Carroll. Carroll then defeated Klein 5-2 for the Title.
After a lengthy rain delay, Memorial downed a very tough Brazoswood club in game three of the best-of-three series to move on to the Regional Finals. The Bucs will face an upstart Lamar team who hadn’t been this far since 1997. The Redskins defeated district rival Westside two games to one to reach the Semis. Brazoswood, Lamar and Memorial all won their districts.
