Athletes impress at 2011 Carl Lewis Indoor Open

Burrell picks up 3 medals
Nearly 1300 track and field athletes were on hand for the 2011 Carl Lewis Indoor Open.
There were no shortages of competitive action as club teams came from afar and near to competed.
Some races had as many as eight section finals, some were against times others were top times that advance to the evening finals.
Participants represented their schools, club teams, area or competed unattached throughout the day Saturday at the University of Houston’s Yeoman Field House. 
For young athletes the early indoor meet is a way to see how they stack up against outside competitors.   It also gives a chance to locate week areas and allows school athletes to tune up for the upcoming season that’s just ahead of them starting in the spring.  Working out the kinks as well as technique is top priority for athletes.
Cameron Burrell led the C.L Athletics Stars with 3 medals.  He help his team to a first place in the 4×200 Meter Relay in the Section 1 Finals, first in the long jump with a 23-05.50 stretch and a second place finish in the 60 Meter Dash.
One of the hottest races of the day was the boy’s 60 meter dash.  (San Antonio Blaze) Jacob Lady-Schrieber turned in the nation second best time of the day, 6.91 toping (Athletic Stars) Burrell who finished with the nation third best time at 6.94.  Other top boy finishers, in the 200 Meter Dash included (Eisenhower’s) Treyvion Johnson, 22.92, (Fort Bend Flyers) Dallas Gray in Section 2 Finals, 21.86 and (Wings) Jermaine Authorlee in the Section 3 Finals with a 22.83.  Paul Hansel running unattached won the 1 mile Run and was second in the 800 Meter Run.   Gray and Lady Schrieber picked up a second medal respectfully by winning the 400 Meter Dash in Section 3 Finals and anchoring a winning 4×200 Meter Relay in a time of 133.70 in Section 5 Finals. Unattached runner Alabanji Asekun took first in the Triple Jump and second in the Long Jump.
In girls action Stephanie Kalu and Martine Cloutier-LeBlanc tied in the 60 Meter Run with a 7.77.  Tiaira Carter, Kiersten Duncan and Taylor Houston all finished first in the 200 Meter Dash in their Section Finals, the top time went to Taylor who finished with a time of 25.03.
