Baseball, Softball Playoffs and Regional Track Meet Highlight up coming week


Woodlands Softball team stays perfect; improves to 34-0 on the season
The Region III Track and Field Meet will kick off Monday and concludes on Tuesday with the top two finishers moving on to the UIL State Track and Field Finals on May 13th and 14th at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Although, North Shore Boys Track and Field team lost a load of seniors to graduation last season, including all everything DeAndrew White. But the Mustangs look poised for another run at the Region III title with the help coming from stand out talents in Jermaine Authorlee and Jaylon Hicks. Cameron Burrell and Clyde Lee lead a talent group of Hurricanes who could compete for the team title as well.
Also keep a watchful on some of the area’s top individual performers from last years Regional and State meet which includes Dulles’s Sheriod Evans who won the 100 Meter Dash and the 200 Meter Dash as a junior. Hightower’s Cameron Burrell, Clyde Lee and North Shore’s Authorlee and Hicks are favorites.
Look for Oak Ridge’s Dalton Rowan to defend his title in the discus, who won state last season with a toss of 177 feet, two inches.
In Girls Class 5A action, Elkin’s Taylor Houston won the 200 Meter Dash at state a year ago as a junior. Westfield’s India Daniels claimed the 100 Meter Dash as a sophomore and also has a victory over Houston in the 200 Meter Dash this year at the Victor Lopez Classic.

As the Bi-District round of Softball Playoffs completed teams will more than likely see stiffer competition in the Area Round of the playoffs.
In Class 5A Region II Klein Collins, Kingwood, The Woodlands and Tomball all advanced to the Area Round of the playoffs with wins. Collins, The Woodlands and Tomball moved on by way of sweeps and Kingwood blanked Klein Oak in a one game series. Thinks should really heat in Area Round when Collins takes on Round Rock, Kingwood will face Austin High, The Woodlands vs. Pflugerville and Tomball will meet Austin Bowie and from the Austin.
Region III looks to be loaded with some of the usual suspects, Alvin, Bellaire, and Pearland among others area powers.
On a high note, according to ESPN Rise and MaxPreps, the Woodlands are the nation’s No. 1 ranked team and also sit at the top of the state polls. Also Woodlands Coach Jorgensen has been nominated as the national female team coach of the year by MaxPreps.
The baseball playoffs get under way this week with some great match ups as well as some rematches.
Clements and the Woodlands are ranked 7th and 8th in the nation according to Rivals 100. The 2010 Region III Champ Rangers are favored to win the Region III title this season but it want be easy with a host of teams that could challenge for the title. The Highlanders will head north to Region II where they could face stellar competition.
