It was the kind of game that Dulles head coach expected to see. A game filled with high emotions,
high energy, great defense and a game of runs.
Dulles took a 12 point halftime lead before with standing a furious comeback attempt by the North
Shore Mustangs that fell short 68-59 in the Vikings favor.
Dulles moves on to meet Nimitz in the regional semi-finals Friday at the Campbell center. The
match up between the two will add more than just a playoff game. Both teams feature a
McDonalds All American Player. Kelsey Bone of Dulles and Brittney Griner of Nimitz. This will be
the second match between the two schools this season in which Dulles won.
Fans got a chance to see why Bone is a McDonalds first team All American. Bone made a clutch
shots in crunch time that helped her team survive a tough North Shore team.
The Vikings went on a 6-0 run to start the third quarter making the score 42-28. But freshman
sensation Courtney Williams cut the run when she drove the lane for 2 of her 13 points on the
night. North Shore manage to close the lead to nine with 2:37 to go in the third period but before
the third quarter ended Dulles push the lead back to eleven at 51-40.
“We lost here two years in a roll to Cy-Fair. Our kids are on a mission. We didn’t play our best
game, but they played well enough to win. That’s sometime all you need,” said said Dulles Coach
Lechtenberger.
With 4:41 left in the fourth quarter was when the mustangs begin to stage their best run since early
in the second quarter. Lauren Flores hits a shot to cut into the Viking lead making the score 55-48
in favor of Dulles. As time slipped off the clock the mustangs drew closer. After Arielle Preston’s
running floater North Shore was within 1 point with a little more than 2 minutes left in the game.
But thats when Bone took over with a nice dribble spin move and a lay in that hurt the mustangs
and gave the Vikings a three point lead. From that point on the Vikings put the finishing touched on
another victory.
bWe never did get into what I consider our rhythm, a lot of that contributed to North Shore’s defense
and their guards kept penetrating on us,”saaid said Dulles Coach Lechtenberger.
