Comeback win keeps Bobcats in playoff Hunt

Bobcats Jr. Kicker warms up while Connor Wallace holds

Identical (4-2) district records and a chance to stay in the playoff race were of importance.
Chris Mangram threw for 131 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another score to lead the Cy-Fair Bobcats to a 21-17comeback win over the Langham Creek Lobos Thursday night at Ken Pridgeon Stadium.
The Bobcats took (6-2, 5-2) took the early lead with a 16 play 79 yard methodical drive that consumed 8:08 off the clock, capped off on Mangram’s 6 yard keeper to carry a 7-0 lead into the second quarter.
Langham Creek bounced back to knot the game at 7 when Chris Hudson’s punt fell short at the 39 yard line. The Lobos quickly put together a drive that watched Dillion Humphreys finish off a 20 yard touchdown run.
“We thought if we could get a win tonight that would move us in the direction we would want to go in. Langham Creek have been awfully explosive offensively and last week defensively they gave up some big plays but I knew they were physical up front they just had a few break downs in the back end last week against Cy-Woods. We were anticipating a physical ball game out of them and they brought it. It was a heck of a game tonight,” said Cy-Fair’s Head Coach.
The Bobcats are enjoying this season with a chance to gain a post season berth since going (0-10) a year ago.
Before the half both teams scored touchdowns to keep things knotted at 14, Lobos Humphrey picked up his second touchdown with a 9 yard run and Cy-Fair’s Mangram connected with Sean Irwin for an 8 yard score.
“I got the ball on a trap play and I headed straight down the middle and as I running somebody grabbed me from the back and my knee buckled and went under my foot (about the injury that left him on crutches in the forth quarter). The win was great we came back, were a second half team, we played hard in the second half and came back with a win,” said Brandon Walker Cy-Fair’s Full Back.
Mangram completed 9 of 13 passes with no picks.
“It was a tough game, hard fought all night, tied at halftime. We came out and had chances I felt like to win but they made a few plays more than we did. We have two games left and we’re going to play as hard as we can and try to win both of them, that’s all we can do is go back to work on Monday,” said Todd Thompson Langham Creek’s head Coach.
Lobos Running back Humphreys led all rushers with 148 yards on 21 carries with two touchdowns; he also picked up 46 yards receiving on 5 receptions while Sophomore Quarterback Connor Feist was 10 of 20 for 108 yards and no touchdowns.
“The rushing and the receiving came strictly from the O-line. The O-line did a Hell of job tonight; there was almost nowhere that I couldn’t run. Connor did a great job throwing the ball; the receivers did a good job blocking running their routes. It’s just a tough game, somebody’s got to win and somebody’s got to lose,” said Dillion Humphreys Langham Creek’s Runningback.
Watching the Lobos rush for more yards than their usual air attack was a bit of a surprise.
Langham Creek (4-4, 4-3) regained the lead, 17-14 on Dylan Munoz’s 39 yard field goal with 4:43 left in the third quarter and the momentum shifted to the Lobos.
John Jacob’s 42 yard kickoff return assured the Bobcats that a change was coming. 58 yards later Keaton Pace pulled in a three yard touchdown catch from Mangram to caped the scoring, 21-17 with 25 seconds to go in the third quarter.
The Lobos could never sustain drives after that point.
“Well it’s definitely a big win for us, like I said earlier Langham Creek was sitting at 4-2 in the district just like we were, so it was an awfully big game for them to,” said Ed Pustejovsky, Cy-fairs Coach.
