Arlington – In the fourth and final game at Cowboy Stadium, the Coppell Cowboys (12-0) defeated Duncanville Panthers 35-10. They will face Midland in the Class 5A Region I Semifinals at 2 p.m. next Saturday at Midland’s Grande Communications Stadium.
The Panthers didn’t have an answer for the pitch and catch dual of Joe Minden and Tyler Landis. Minden threw four Touchdowns while going 17-of-27 for 267 yards. Two of the four touchdowns went to Landis who had a 54 yard grab and a 14 yarder.
After Chris Simpson’s a five yard touchdown run, Duncanville held a brief 7-0 lead.
“We have to take our hats to our seniors; they accomplished a lot this year, co-district champs first time since 2004. Made it to the Bi-District round for the first time since 2004, made it to the second round first time since 2000. Its one step at a time, we learn a lot to night and we learned about our character and we still got to address some of those issues but we made some great strides. I’m so proud of our kids for getting us to where we are now,” said Duncanville’s Coach Jeff Discus.
Kyle Echerd’s 28 yard reception from Minden knotted the game at 7. But the Panthers would go ahead again on Anthony Rodriguez 33 yard field goal.
“We’ve thrown the ball pretty good all year and we have good kids who catch the ball, we protect it for the most part. We feel we have a lot of confidence in all our different routes and guys catching the ball making plays and I’m glad they did. They (Duncanville) were running a lot of pressure man stuffs and we felt like got a bunch of guys that could get open,” said Coppell’s Coach Joe McBride.
Coppell went on to build a 28-10 halftime lead and never looked back.
“Well they came into it trying to stop the running game with Cam,” said Tyler Landis Coppell’s Receiver. They left us man to man and we just took advantage of the openings. I felt pretty good but on the second touchdown I actually ran the wrong route, I got pretty lucky on that one, other than that Joe was putting on the money. Hard works is paying off.”
