Cougar's last second field goal bites Cavaliers

Jacob Farmen nailed a 28 yard field goal with no time left to help knock off the College Park Cavaliers 38-35 in dramatic fashion Friday night at Woodforest Stadium. The win keeps Cinco Ranch undefeated at 5-0 while Cavaliers fell to 3-2.
Cinco Ranch spotted College Park a 14 point first half lead and roared back. A 53 yard reception from Myers to Alex Ludowig got the Cougars down inside College Park territory with under a minute to go before Farmen sparked the last second winning field goal.
“Well, I have two thoughts, the first half was one thought and it’s not a very good one. The second half is a much better one, the kids did a good job of responding at halftime. We scored six times in the second half and the last one with no time on the clock”, said Cinco Ranch’s Head Coach Don Clayton.
The Cavaliers scored two second quarter touchdowns that broke open a scoreless game. They drove 48 yards for their first score. Taylor Parsons connected with Tight end Chris Malott for 18 yards down field giving them a first down at the 30 yard line. A couple of plays later Parsons found Ryan Kim wide open and streaking to the end zone for the easy 26 yard touchdown catch.
Disaster struck Cinco Ranch deep in their territory. Quarterback Zack Myers attempted a pass that was deflected by a College Park defender out stretched hands, the ball landed back in Myers hands and as he ran with the ball. He fumbled the ball turning it over in their territory at 7 yard line.
Four plays later Parsons hooked up with Malott for a 7 yard touchdown catch to build a 14-0 lead.
Myers two turnovers hurt the Cougars opportunities in the first half. He was picked off by Keenan Cook after a lengthy drive.
At the start of the third quarter the Cougars came out and scored on their first drive, trimming the lead 14-7. K. C. Nlemchi picked up a 122 yards on 19 carries and one touchdown, most which came in the second half. He ripped off a 57 yard run to move them down to the Cavaliers 18 yard line. But a clipping call backed them up to the 28 yard line. On the very next play from scrimmage Nlemchi grabbed a screen pass from Myers and turn it into a 28 yard touchdown.
It would be a seesaw affair the rest of the second half.
College Park sprung back into action reclaiming a 14 point lead. Parsons 31 yard Keeper, a roughen the passer penalty and a 19 yard run by Aaron Osbourne kept the Cavaliers on the move. Parsons finish the drive with a nine yard touchdown option keeper, 21-7.
After both teams traded punts the Cougars rallied back driving 65 yards for their next score. Myers went in from 2 yards out, to draw closer at 21-14 with 11:54 to go in the 4th quarter. He was 13 of 20 with one interception for 218 yards passing and two touchdowns.
Then the Cavaliers turn to their option attack which gave Cinco Ranch fits. Parsons timely pitches to Osborne on the option chewed up chunks of yards. On back to back plays Osborne accounted for 41 yards on the drive. Parsons 15 yard touchdown strike to Bret Mooney who ran a fly pattern down the left side line put them back up by 14 points, 28-14.
Down but not out, the Cougars clawed back. A 24 yard run by Patrick Hiesler pushed Cinco Ranch down to the 15 yard line of College Park. Myers two yard touchdown run cut the lead to 7, 28-21 with 7:19 left.
Derek Guignard’s sack put the Cougars in position for the tying touchdown. Guignard rushed from the right side fighting through blocks and blind sided Parsons forcing them to punt on 4th down, after a six yard loss on the play.
With 4:05 to play Joe Norrell thrilling 60 yard TE screen knotted the game at 28. Norrell was wide open on the left hash mark with blockers in front of him but he had to fight his way to the end zone diving in from the two yard line.
Turnovers haunted College Park, Osborneb’s fumble deep in their territory at the 38 yard line open the door for the Cougars.
On first down Myers scampered 22 yards down to the 16 yard line. Then work horse Nlemchi added 6 yards moving the ball to the 10 yard line. A couple plays later the elusive Seung Hong score from 5 yards out giving Cinco Ranch their first lead of the game, 35-28.
The Cavaliers answered tying the game on Osborneb’s 45 yard run with 1:27 to go in the game. Osborne finish the game with 15 carries for 153 yards and one touchdown.
