Crusaders tame the knights

With the right amount of patience and timing Strait Jesuit was able to put away the Elkin Knights
56-46 Friday night at the Campbell Center.
Strait will face Chavez a 54-53 winner over Hightower for the region III 5-A title and a chance to go
to state.
Although the crusaders offense was out of sync much of the game due in part to a some great
defense and a physical knightbs team. They were able to control the tempo of the game. The
knights banged, bumped and pushed.
After one quarter the game was tied 9 all.
In the second quarter is when the game got very physical. Both team were pushing, wrestling for
loose balls and hard fouls. Nothing was coming easy, if you like hard work this was one to
appreciate.
Elkins and Strait struggled from the free throw line most of the game.
The turning point of the game came in the second quarter when Aaron Harwell of Elkins was hit
with a technical foul for pushing Tim Frazier. Frazier made good on both free throws as well as
Rogers did on the technical foul shots increasing the lead to 9 points with 3:01 to go.
The knights did not give in going down on their end of the court and scoring cutting the lead to 7.
Then knights drew within 5 points after Willie Rogers missed two free throws but got the rebound
and put it up for 2 points. From that point they traded baskets until halftime.
Strait Jesuit took a 4 point halftime lead 25-21.
With both teams playing great defense it was no surprise to see low scoring contest.
In third quarter the knights came out ready as Miles Dixon sank two short jumpers to lock the
game at 25 all with 6:40 to go in the third quarter.
Thatbs when Brooks took over scoring at will forcing his way through traffic for lay ups and out
hustling the knights for rebounds. Brooks was doing any and everything in his power to keep the
crusaders on top.
The crusaders took a 2 point lead when brooks converted a layup. But the knights came were right
back and found Rogers in lane for a short jumper to knot the score at 30.
While Brooks was doing all he could do for the crusaders, Dixon was doing like wise frustrating
the crusaders knifing through their defense for short jumpers.
Strait took an 8 point margin into the fourth quarter after the knights went cold late in the third
quarter.
The knights would stay within 6 points after Dixon converted two free throws, chopping the lead to
four (46-42). But after that it was all Strait Jesuit.
