Crusaders throw counter punch, sink Marlins

Facing the number one team in the state and number four in the country according to rivals, is no easy task. Madison was the latest playoff foe to go down at the hands of Strake Jesuit (34-0) 69- 57 Saturday night at Texas Southern.
The crusaders move on to face district rival Alief Taylor a 76-72 winner over Eisenhower next week in the area round of the playoffs.
Though the marlins had super star point guard Tommy Mason-Griffin a McDonaldbs All-American and an Oklahoma commitment. The crusaders did a great job to hold Griffin to 16 points, something no one else has been able to do.
Over 9,000 watched the high intensity game between Strake and Madison. Strake received a hand full support from its student section which was covered with signs and rooting the whole way.
Brooks and Frazier did what they’ve done all season, make shots and play great defense. When brooks didn’t have the ball Frasier was making the Jordan like moves slicing to the rim. But the crusaders got help from their entire team.
The crusaders got off to a great start leading Madison 20-6 after the first quarter.
The marlins stormed back in the second quarter down by 6 points 22-16 before going down by 10 points at the half 33-23. Each time Madison would draw closer Brooks or Frazier would answer.
In the third quarter was the closest the marlins would come, trimming the lead to three 44-41with a little more than 2 minutes to go in the third.
The Marlins also had a nightmare free throw shooting evening.
Brooks and Frazier led all scorers respectfully with 21 and 18 points.
