Perimeter game from
Cy-Fair guards loomed big
Cy-Fair (26-1) is on a mission to sow up some unfinished busy. They are attempting to make it back to Austin, Texas, a place where their journey ended short of their dreams. Another step in that direction occurred last night when they took down the DeKaney Wildcats 70-48 on Thursday night at the Campbell Center.
DeKaney considered the new kids on the block, are in their second season of girls varsity basketball, but the talent is no surprise to the area folks because the school is a spend off from rival school Westfield. This is their second year in the playoffs with their first playoff win coming this year, a bi-district win over The Woodlands last week..
Cy-Fair executed their perimeter game while Chiney Ogwumike was being double and triple team down in the low post, most of the night. She still manage to lead the Bobcats with 26 points and 18 rebounds. But the guard play of Aarika Reyna, Cassis Peoples and Danka Cervenka bombed away from three point land. Between the three they converted 8 three pointers. Reyna was hot from the outside connecting on 4 three pointers while tallying 18 points for the Bobcats. “Once they started double teaming Chiney down low we were ready to shoot the ball,” we prepare for that before the game,” said Cy-Fair’s Guard Aarika Reyna.
Ogwumike scored the game’s first points from inside where she did most of her damage.
Putting pressure on the Wildcats ball handlers work well for the Bobcats as they forced DeKaney into bad decisions.
DeKaney stayed close early on and also the lead 10-8 at one point but it was short lived as Cy-fair tie the game on the very next possession, from that point the Bobcats never trailed.
