21 unanswered points was much for the Jets
Pittsburgh -After leading 24-0 in the second quarter, the Pittsburgh Steelers with stood a furious second half rally to defeat the New York Jets 24-19 in the AFC Championship game on Sunday at Heinz Fields to earn a berth in Super Bowl XLV.
The win puts the Steelers in the Super Bowl for the third time in six seasons where they will face the Green Bay Packers in Arlington at Cowboy Stadium on February 6th.
24 first half points held true for the Steelers (14-4) who played keep away throughout the second half to set a date for the super day. The Jets picked up a field goal before the half going into intermission down 24-3.
Mendenhall and Roethlisberger had little trouble running through the Jets defense. Mendenhall rushed for 95 of his 121 yards in the first half.
New York (13-6) advanced to the Championship game by way of defeating Colts and the Patriots but couldn’t manage to string together finishing drives in the first half.
