Dexter Foreman II the son of former Ex- Kashmere stand out Dexter Foreman, is making a name for himself at Manvel high school. Which is located right outside of Pearland.
The younger Foreman marveled at Manvel High, showing similarities of his dad. Foreman II has held his own as a freshman passing for more than 1,800 yards with 19 touchdowns, 250 yards rushing and five touchdowns while escaping defenses.
While foreman II was learning in his first season under the direction of head Coach Martin, the school was in its second year of existence.
With all underclassmen, the Mavericks competed against sub varsity as well as varsity programs. With a rich talent bed, Manvel finished 3-1 against varsity competition.
The fourteen year old Foreman II stands 6’2 and weighs 190 pounds coming into his sophomore year with high hopes.
Foreman II is very optimistic about the upcoming season and feels like Manvel can make the playoffs. The future is bright for the Mavericks, who return most of its roster from a 7-3 campaign.
When asking Foreman II about team expectations for the 2008 season, he explained, “the team expect big things from our defensive line. We have a great D-Line starting with defensive end Stanley Thomas and defensive tackle Sterling Diggs, who we believe will help usher our goals to make the playoffs.”
Foreman II can make all the throws whether its the short, mid, or the deep pass.
“I like throwing the deep ball more because I have my timing down,” Foreman mentioned. He also has the receiving corps to lend a helping hand.
Working out with pushups at the tender age of five helped to develop Forman II’s arm strength. That advice came from father Forman at no additional price.
In his middle school days, he joined the seventh grade basketball team just ahead of his last Little League football season. It wasn’t until Forman II’s eighth grade year when he competed in football where he excelled. ”
“We played eight games that season and finished up at 5-3,” Forman II said. “We ran the spread offense and threw the ball a lot.”
The younger Forman feels like room for improvement, is a sitting opportunity. Including agility and speed. With a forty time of 4.5, the sophomore is not far off his goal of 4.4 and 4.3.
“My summer workouts consisted of running a mile every
other day, running hills, working on the speed latter, footwork, throwing motion and jumping rope,” says Forman II.
A little shaken in his first varsity season, but Forman II thrived. “I was very nervous but it was an exciting experience,” Forman II replied. “I grew up watching high school football and great players such as Jamal Charles, Reggie McNeil and Vincent Young. Every Friday night was set aside for my father and I.”
Coach Martin recognized that Forman II could carry the team’s burden. “He expects me to be the field general.” He always tell me, when you get on that field you have to lead your team down the field.”
Away from sports, Foreman II excels in the classroom, sporting 3.5 grade average and his favorite subject is math. Hitting the books comes first says the young gun slinger.
In addition, the three sport star competes in Basketball, football and track. In basketball he started at the post position where the team counted on him as a rebounder due to his athletic ability and positioning. His track experience watched him compete in the Junior Olympics two consecutive years in the 400 Meter Dash.
