Eisenhower Team Comes Together

Eisenhower looked like a team on a mission Saturday night. A lot like the team that possesses the talent they have. Call it long lay off or not, Eisenhower carried a knock out punch much like Hurricane Ike, taming the mustangs 39-13 at Thorn Stadium.
Curtis McGregor got things started with a thrilling 64 yard touchdown run down the right sideline. Running through would be tacklers en route. McGregor had 249 yards on 15 carries, three rushing touchdowns and pass for a score.
“I feel real good.We came to school that Monday without any lights in the locker room, looking for our uniforms to practice and we found them. We went out and had a hard practice. “I think the storm changed us, it made us a better team, said Curtis McGregor Eisenhower’s running back.
After Kingwood couldn’t get anything going Eisenhower would strike again this time using a 60 yard pass from Guiton to Poppa Craig Loston to make the score 13-0.
Kingwood showed their back bone taking the ensuing kick off 51 yards inside the eagle’s territory at the 49 yard line. Not long after Saladino spotted up for a forty yard field goal to bring the mustangs within 10 points.
On Eisenhowerbs next possession Kingwood held forcing a punt. The mustangs used their veer offense of David Fitt, Austin Gagliano and AJ Paradowski to off set the eagle’s defense. The mustangs drew closer after a 42 yard line drive field goal by Saladino. Kingwood was able to grab the momentum for a short period of time, the score 13-6. Kingwood seemed to be ready to pose a threat after stopping the eagles again. But to no avail after Kingwoodbs QB was intercepted by Allen Veazie who returned the ball to the mustang’s 48 yard line. Eisenhower would then move into field goal range and connect on a 24 yard attempt. That made the score 16-6. Kingwood got the ball back with 5:40 left in the first half and was able to get inside Eisenhower’s territory at the 28 before being pushed back to the 33 yard line. That took them out of field goal range because of illegal shift penalty. Eisenhower picked up 3 more points before halftime when Guiton found Washington Allen down at the 23 yard line of Kingwood. The eaglebs took a 19-6 lead into intermission.
At the start of the third quarter Kingwood wasted an opportunity to put points on the board. Marshall Clapp returns the kickoff 64 yards to the eaglebs 36 yard line. They eventually turn the ball over on downs.
With 2:56 remaining in the 3rd quarter the mustangs scored their one and only touchdown of the game, a 2 yard run by Fitt. Kingwood would get no closer than 19-13.
Just moments later McGregor would add another highlight, scampering 63 yards to the end zone to kill any thoughts of a comeback from the mustangs.
“I told our football team, I’m really proud of them, we hadn’t played in two weeks. We started practicing on Monday.Kids didn’t have power at their houses and didn’t have power at school. The kids came out Monday real focused and this is a result of it,”  said Coach Ray Evans.
