Abilene starts out No. 1

Abilene gets the early nod for the top spot. With cousins Herschel and Ronnell Sims leading the way. The Eagles could be a force to be reckoned with, not to mention that Herschel’s running mate RB Tony Curtis rushed for nearly a 1,000 yards, 16 TDs.
The City of Abilene celebrated last season with their first football title in 53 years and looks to add to it this season.
The Eagles will be tested early. If they can get through a tough non-district schedule that includes Belton, Franklinton, La., Cocoa (Florida), Plant (Florida) and Longview. Cocoa and Plant won state titles in Florida last season, class 2A and 5A respectfully. Longview had two state appearances the last two seasons.
Euless Trinity comes in at No. 2 after being posting an overtime win over No. 3 Austin Westlake for the 2009 division I state title. The Trojans will march into season with most of their players back from last season including standout Brandon Knight, making them an early favored for another title. If the Trojans can fill the QB position, the sky may be the limit for them.
Katy, the No. 4 team will be looking to regain state status with Jr. QB Brooks Haack and RB Donovonn Young.
