Experience pays off for the lady war eagles

In region 3 class 4-A action, The Washington Lady
Eagles started out cold but took advantage of a
young Waltrip Ram team Tuesday night at Delmar
Field House. The Eagles harassing ball hawking
defense and board control helped down the Rams
58-30.
b We came out a little flat.b bWe couldnbt allow that
caliber of a team to hang around so we had to step
it up on defense, thatbs what we do, said Coach
Anderson of Washington.
Washington moves on to face La Marque a 65-61
winner over El Campo, later this week.
Korean davenport and Senasha Chatmon applied
pressure on the ball while Kathryn Jackson, a low
post player controlled the boards. Davenport and
Chatmon chased down the rams guards from
behind in route to easy steals and did a great job of
taking away the passing lanes. The rams had no
answer for the much bigger Jackson having her
way in the paint, cleaning the boards and limiting
Waltrip to one shot on offense.
bWell we knew we came in with a height advantage
so we wanted to go inside.b bWe have three big
girls, but my number one go to post player is
number 32 Kathryn Jackson,b said Coach
Anderson.
The rams youth showed, turning the ball over on
self inflicted mistakes and not being able to keep
up with the stronger eaglesb team.
bExperience played a big factor because I have
juniors and seniors on my squad and he, Waltripbs
Head Coach Courtney Jackson have a lot of
freshmen.b bThey play with a lot of heart and he
has brought them a long way, a little further then
theybve ever been,b said Washingtonbs head
coach.
