Unsigned Muhammad shine in 35th Annual McDonald’s Game
Four players from the lone star state saw action in the 35th Annual 2012 McDonalds All-American Boys Game that aired on ESPN Wednesday night.
The most in recent memory from Texas, which included (Fort Bend Bush’s) center Cameron Ridley, who gave the university of Texas a verbal commitment. Ridley helped Bush to its first basketball title in his sophomore season. Center Isaiah Austin of (Arlington Grace Prep) is Baylor bound. Guard Marcus Smart of two time defending Class 5A state champion (Flower Mound Marcus) will take his game to Oklahoma State next season and (Strake Jesuit’s) shooting guard, Rasheed Sulaimon committed to Duke.
This year’s Texas quadruple fell one player short of tying the record of five, set by New York and California.
Shabazz Muhammad of Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) regarded as the top player in the nation by most publications led the West to 106-102 victory with 21 points while taking the MVP honors.
Muhammad scored on an array of dunks and also won the dunk contest. Sulaimon followed with a great showing along with 18 points.
The East was led by Kentucky’s commitment, Alex Poythress, with 19 points. Kyle Anderson finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds and Rodney Purvis had 15 points.
The West led by as many as 25 points (87-62) with 9:37 left before watching the East rally to cut the lead to four points with 4.1 seconds left.
