Freshman Daniel Mengden provided Westside High with all the offense they would need by hitting a walk off homer to deep left field off a fastball that hung up in the strike zone from Austin Coble. With no one on base the wolves took a 1- 0 victory in game one of the best of 3. Daniel Mengden kept the bobcats busy all night.
If you like great pitching, you would’ve loved this game. One pitching mistake separated these teams, which cost the bobcats the game. On a night when both pitchers deserve to win.
In the bottom of the fifth inning is when the wolves’ posted there first threat to no avail. Daniel Mengden got things started when he walked to first, followed by two infield singles courtesy of Cory Malt and Garrett Shaw, but it wasn’t long before Austin Coble got out of the inning when he struck out Michael Falcone, Daniel Mengden was caught in a chase down between 3rd and home for the second out which appear to be a squeeze play and Freddy Villalobos follow with a strikeout to end the inning. The final spark came in the bottom of the 7th inning.
