Hard work pays off for Rebels with title

Angleton Boys use two relays,
help land second place finish

Austin – The Lady Rebel’s Track Team knows nothing comes easy. Hard work is usually what they rely on.
Westbury secured a 12 point victory over second place Lancaster to capture the girls Class 4A UIL Track & Field State Championship Friday night at Mike. A. Stadium.
The Rebels won both the 4×100 Meter Relay, 4×400 Meter Relay and took second in the 4×200 Meter Relay.
Westbury was led by Christy Udoh who blazed the 200 Meter Dash in 23.70 seconds while helping her team win the 4×100 Meter Relay.
In Class 4A boy’s action, Angleton finished a distance second with 38 points behind Lancaster’s 72.
The Wildcats won the 4×100 Meter Relay and finished third in the 4×200 Meter Relay. Henry Josey placed third in the 100 Meter Dash.
Other 4A boys medalist were Brenham’s Will Antkowiak who took second in the 1600 and won the 3200 Meter Run while teammate Derek Edwards finish third in the High Jump, Port Neches-Groves Dylan Richards was second in the high jump, Houston Westbury’s Yonus Tesfai finidhed third in the 1600 Meter Run, Huntsville Justin Gilbert won the 200 Meter Dash, Rosenberg Lamar’s Thomas Foster was third in the Long Jump, Pearland Dawson’s Kennedy Estelle was second in the Shot Put while their 4×400 Meter Relay team placed third and Kingwood Park won the 4×400 Meter Relay.
4A girls action watched Beaumont Ozen’s A’Lexus Brannon take the Long Jump and the triple jump while nailing down second place in the 4×100 Meter Relay, Sharpstown Ryesa Whigham won the 100 Meter Hurdles, Kingwood Park’s Zahri Jackson took second in both the 800 and the 1600 Meter Run while teammate Mariam Amadu won the 300 Meter Hurdles.
