Lewis’ 97-yard touchdown return with 1:36 left, pushes Pearland into title round

The Katy Tigers moved one step closer to defending its title, after plowing through San Antonio Johnson 52-0.
Junior running back Rodney Anderson rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns and sophomore standout Kyle Porter added 128 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns in Katy’s march to the Class 5A Division II state finals, set for next Saturday evening at 8:00 pm at AT&T Stadium where they’ll meet Cedar Hill for the second year straight.  Katy won 35-24 last season.
Tigers’ potent defense yielded only 88 yards.
Pearland defeated San Antonio Madison 38-34 in a see-saw affair.  The Oilers will try for its second title in 5A Division I state finals, since shocking Euless Trinity 28-24 in 2010, when it faces Allen, who began the season top ranked and last season’s defending champion at AT&T Stadium at 4:00 pm Saturday.
Jacoby Lewis 97-yard kickoff return with 1:36 remaining was the final blow that pushed Pearland into title round.
Caleb Hill threw four touchdowns passes to help the Brenham Cubs overthrow Port Lavaca Calhoun 56-21 in the Class 4A Division II state semifinals.  They will face top ranked Aledo, who averages 65.7 points a game and holds the national record for scoring, with 985 points.
In 2009 the Cubs fell short in a bout with Aledo, 35-21.
The contest is set for noon Saturday at AT&T Stadium.
Hill’s day included 12-of-18 passing attempts with 253 yards.
Stratford had the toughest matchup of the area’s 4A and 5A games.  Facing state ranked and undefeated San Antonio Brennan in the Class 4A Division I state semifinal at Reliant was no picnic, as defensive lineman Derik Roberson’s four sacks helped the Bears claim its 15 victory of the season, winning 31-7 on Friday night.
Coming into the game, Brennan had surrendered only four touchdowns while holding an 816-51 scoring advantage over its opponents.
