The Cleveland Cavaliers assured the NBA world that it would be a game six of the NBA Finals.
In the most important game of their careers, Cavaliers’ Kyrie Irving and LeBron James done what no other NBA players did in the basketball finals.
Facing elimination, the will of two of the best players in the NBA, Irving, and James scored 41 points each to help the Cleveland Cavaliers defeat the Golden State Warriors, 112-97 in game five of the NBA Finals at Oracle Arena on Monday night.
It marked the first time that two players from the same team scored 40 or more points in the finals of the best-of-seven series.
Irving shot 17-of-24 from the field, connecting on five three-pointers. While James led the Cavs with 25 first half points and finished the day going 16-30, and 5-of-8 from the free throw line.
For James, it’s more of surviving to play another day. Meanwhile, Irving mentioned without James and his performance, the team would not be in this position. It’s about teammates trusting our leadership, Irving said.
The first half shootout watched both teams combine for 122 points as intermission closed out a tie game at 61-all.
Klay Thompson, who drained six three-pointers, led Golden State with 37 points. Stephen Curry added 25.
Game five moves back to Cleveland with the Warriors holding a 3-2 advantage and other a chance to collect its second consecutive NBA Title.
