Kingwood girls pull away from the field, win region North Shore Boys, Team work produces title

Humble – Weather conditions seem to be great for sprinters but it was the long distance runners
who suffered the most Saturday afternoon. Saturdaybs weather called for overcast skies, hot,
humid and rain. Although the rain never showed until much later in the day.
Kingwood boys and girls track team have left a mark on the Houston area for years. The mustangs
are traditionally known for their long distance running, though in recent years have had more of a
balance attack.
Without winning any of the relays, Kingwood girls use a open races to pin down the class 5A
region III title. Kathryn Lupton won the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles while Erin Lee
took third in both. Catie Daigre was second in the 1,600- meter run and third in the 3,200- meter
run, Sophie Blake was third in the 800 meter run as well as the 1,600- meter run and Rosemary
Steup was second in the 3,200- meter run.
North Shore runs to title
North Shore known for their football power served up a track notice by winning the class 5A region
III meet Saturday evening at Turner Stadium. The Mustangs compiled points by placing no lower
than third in the relays along with White taking second in the 200 meter run and winning the long
jump and Darius Hyacinth was third in the triple jump.
Other individual medalist
Junior Kristin Mitchell of Aleif Taylor won the 100 meter run in a photo finish over Chance Imhoff of
Pasadena Memorial. Strake Jesuitbs James Webb cruise to victories in the 1,600- meter run and
the 3,200- meter run. Sophomore standout Sheroid Evans won the 200 meter run and the 400
meter run. Willoridge surprised favorite Cinco Ranch by winning the 4×400 meter relay
