Panthers lead rivals games with upset of the week, of area’s No 1 team, Embarrassing loss on national stage, raises eyebrows at Concord (Ca) De La Salle

Someone should tell Klein Oak to give us all a warning, if they’re going to surprise the area’s top-ranked team.  The Panthers handed Klein Collins their first loss of the season.  It endured three overtimes before prevailing 34-28 on Friday night at Klein Memorial Stadium.  With the game locked at 28 in the second overtime, the Panther converted a turnover into a 13 yard Connor McQueen’s touchdown run.  The winning drive was setup when Cody Spiegelhauser intercepted Klein Collin’s Quarterback Tyler Stehling, giving Klein Oak possession of the ball.
Matt Davis 65 yard touchdown run from scrimmage completed a comeback, as the Eagles took down arch rival Klein Bearkats 28-21, after leading early.
The Bulldogs of La Porte held off neighborhood rival Deer Park (34-31) in double overtime.  Running back Keith Whitely scored the winning touchdown, a five yarder.  That gives the Bulldogs a 26-24-1 edge in the fierce rival series.

In the latest AP Polls, DeSoto moves up to No. 3, for good reason.  The Eagles continue on their impressive role with a victory over 61-13 victory over Tulsa N.O.A.H. and Dallas Skyline moved into the top ten.  No 2 Katy piled up 307 rushing yards in defeating undefeated Seven Lakes 46-7.  The disappointing loss of star tailback Adam Taylor has not deterred the Tigers at all.  In fact, two of the Tiger’s running backs rushed for more than 100 yards, R. Anderson finished with 168 yards on 17 carries, and R. Bickham had six attempts for 112.
Euless Trinity survived a scare from Colleyville Heritage escaping with a 38-35 victory off the leg of Austin Lopez’s 37-yard field goal.  Heritage scored two late touchdowns to take the game into overtime.
Jordan Barnes ran for 522 yards and six touchdowns as Van Alstyne defeated Farmersville in a high scoring affair, 62-55.  He didn’t forget to thank the offensive line, in which he said it wouldn’t have happened without their help.  Barnes night included 34 carries and scoring runs of 81, 11, 41, 12, 45, and 6 to give him a season total of 1,240 yards on 104 rushes.  The 3A game was a non-district battle.
