Big plays lead Cougars to title game
San Antonio – For the sixth time in the Semifinals the ball has bounced the Cougars way.
La Marque took out old nemesis (Corpus Christi) Calallen 42-18 Friday night for the sixth time in the Class 4A Division II State Semifinals at the Alamodome. The win sets up a date with No.1 state ranked Aledo. A 29-27 victory over upstart Mesquite Poteet was Aledo’s ticket to Cowboy Stadium in next week’s title game.
Big plays were key to sending the Cougars (11-3) to the finals for the tenth time in school history.
Emanuell Williams and Tim Wright combined for 394 yards and six touchdowns of LaMarque’s offense.
One first down in the first quarter, dropped passes and two turnovers inside the Cougars territory didn’t help Calallen (13-2).
