Irving b The Longview faithful were all but relaxed as they watch the Midway Panthers do just about everything right in the second half. Longview did not have an answer for John Hubert, the Panthers star running back. The Lobos could only watch and wait hoping for a miracle. It came when Aaron Johnsonbs game ending two point conversion sank the Panthers Saturday night at Texas Stadium.
After both teams traded stops on their first drives, the Lobos took a 7 point advantage when Tyler McCray knifed up the middle for a 18 yard touchdown.
Midway was three and out on their next series, but with forth and 3 and ready to punt Longview was penalized for off sides giving the Panthers a first down at their 32 yard line. Two plays later the Lobos were flagged for their second off sides but Midway would turn the ball over, an interception by Alonte Darden. Darden return it 25 yards down to the Panthers 18 yard line.
Aaron Johnson was busy all night. This time burning the Panthers defense for an eight touchdown run, a 14-0 lead with 11:05 to go in the second quarter.
Longview would to have to pay for trying to surprise the Panthers with a quick onside kick. The Panthers recovered at their own 48 yard line. They worked their way down field with passing and running. In the process Longview was penalized for their third off sides of the game pushing ball to the 8 yard line of the Lobos. Two plays later Hubert scored from 4 yards out slicing the lead in half at 14-7.
On the Lobos next possession McCray was stopped for no gain. On second down Johnson hit Carey Fortson, that cover 10 yards and a Longview first down at their 41 yard line. A few plays later the Panthers defense stiffen holding the Lobos on third down. The Lobos lined up in punt formation on forth down and did a direct snap to Ladarrin Johnson who was positioned as one of the up backs. Johnson raced to the right side of the field where he was tackled down at the Midwaybs 27 yard line but not before he picked a first down and 29 yards. A couple of plays later Johnson team up with Cody Taylor for 27 yard strike. The Lobos increased their lead to 21-7 with 1: 56 to go in the first half.
The Panthers had another chance to score before halftime. They reached the Lobos 32 yard line before Scott Newberry missed a 49 yard field goal that ended the first half.
In the second half was when Midways offense begin to click on all cylinders. Holmes, Hubert, and Glaesmann were awesome for the Panthers. The Panthers moved into the Lobos territory quickly. They started with good field position at their 46 yard line. Handoff to Hubert up the middle for 24 yards after being tackled at the Longview 32 yard line. Midway continue their rushing assault moving to 21 yard line. From there it was a 21 yard touchdown pass from Cory Holmes to Todd Glaesmann. That close the gap at 21-14. Holmes and Glaesmann has all the tools to play on Saturday afternoon.
The Lobos wasted no time regaining their 13 point lead. Johnson went up top to Carey Fortson with a defender all over him but he still manage to make the catch. That put them inside the 12 yard line of Midway. Then Johnson muscled his way up the middle breaking free for a hard fought six yard touchdown run. Extra point was no good. The score 27-14.
Midway went to their star players on the next drive using the rushing of Hubert and the hands of Glaesmann to get back in the end zone from two yards out, by Hubert his second touchdown of the night. 27-21 at the end of the third quarter.
Longviewbs next touchdown set the stage for the game. They were able convert on a very important two point conversion after Ahmad Dixonbs 8 yard touchdown run up the middle. Johnson scored the two point conversion.
Hubert would break free again this time for 49 yards to draw with in seven points again at 35-28 with 6:39 to play.
The Panthers drew even at 35-35 after stopping the Lobos on forth and one at their 29 yard line. The touchdown came on a one run by Glaesmann with 7seconds left in the game. That sent the game to overtime.
Midway got the ball first and scored on a 9 yard touchdown run by Hubert to take their first lead of the game 42-35.
Longview got the ball at the 25 yard line and from 12 yards out McCray fought his way up the middle breaking tackles through a tire Panthers defense. That made the score 42-41 setting stage for the thriller. The Lobos took a time out and decided to go for two points and the win. From the three yard line Johnson took the snap and hesitated while looking for an escape route which he found up the middle of the Panthers defense. Just barely squeezing through and stretching for the goal line. The middle of the Panthers defense is where the Lobos had their most success. The Lobos entire team burst on to the field in jubilation.
