I must profess that I am not a big fan of the WNBA, that is until recently as I began to watch just how good they play. I watched the Minnesota Lynx go undefeated in the whole month of May. How extraordinary is that accomplishment. I had no idea about such a record until I watch the games purely by happenstance. Now I have a new interest in all things WNBA.
Twenty-three straight victories are notable in anyone’s book, yet I heard barely a whisper of it on the national news, online or anywhere. Is this gender bias at its best? Should we not give the same interest toward women’s sports as we do the men.
They play just as hard and are just as competitive as the men are, but we do them a disservice by not giving them due respect for their athleticism. I now enjoy the WNBA and I urge you to begin to watch them as well if you are not presently doing so. You will be pleasantly surprised to say the least.
