De La Salle looks to even series with St. Thomas Aquinas
Its that time of year again. The high school football season is here.
In two days, one of the top high school football classics in the nation will be on tap when the MetroPCS by T-Mobile Corky Kell Classic kickoffs at Rome Barron Stadium in the Peach State. The three-day showcase will watch some of Georgia’s top-ranked schools battle for in-state bragging rights in the 28th edition of the classic.
Thursday, August 22nd, matchups will include Calhoun vs. Richland at 5:30 pm. Following, Marietta will take on Rome at 8:30 pm. If that’s enough, stay tuned as Friday evening unfolds with a pair of epic matchups when Archer meet Tucker at 5:30 pm and Buford face Milton in the nightcap at 8:30 pm. These two contest will compete at Coolray Field all times are eastern.
The showcase will conclude Saturday following five games. Fans will have the luxury of the inside seating of the beautiful Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Mays vs. Kell will get the action rolling at 9 am. Walton will face Norcross at 11:45 am. The middle game of the five will feature a top match when Colquitt clashes with North Gwinett at 2:45 pm. Then, McEachern vs. Brookwood at 5:45 pm. East Coweta and Mill Creek will close the classic with its 8:45 pm start.
The Corky Kell Classic want be the only huge matchups over the weekend. Ossports will shine the spotlight on one such national matchup when St. Thomas Aquinas travels to California to meet De La Salle on August 23rd at 8:30 pm pacific time. The televised meeting to air on ESPNU is the second between the two teams with the first coming in 2011 as the Raiders downed the Spartans, 30-6 in Florida.
The Trojans now on its home turf will look to avenge the loss. But in doing so, it will be asked to match wits with the annually athletic hotbed from Fort Lauderdale School.
