Morning's rushing performance sinks the Eagles

Westfield used the running of Jamarcus Morning to take the air out of the Cy-Fall Eagles 40-21 Friday night at Berry Stadium. Morning rushed for 200 yards on 24 carries while showing his versatility, running up the middle with power, bouncing to the outside with speed, breaking tackles and serving as receiving threat out of the back field.
A commanding 26-7 halftime lead was enough to shut the door on the Eagles.
Even with all the penalties and mistakes, Westfield looked like a team to be reckoned with. Quarterback Jacoby Walker led the way exposing the Eagles defense. He went to the air when he wasnbt handing the ball off to Dotson and Morning.
There was no drop off on the Mustangbs defense with linebackers Aaron Harris, Kenneth Dickie, Roland Hannah and nose guard Desmond Jackson. All played sparingly in the season opener.
b We played fast and hard, we all played together and thatbs what made everything go.b bThey tried to run through one hole but they couldnbt get there, because we had Desmond Johnson there (the nose guard) and the defensive line.b bThat forced them to the outside and we were able to make some stops said,b Kenneth Dickie, Westfieldbs linebacker.
Later in district play, a focal point will be on the Mustangs when they face rival Klein Forest, both teams share similarity in styles.

Morningbs carries aided the drive moving the offense closer toward the goal line. Dotsonbs three yard touchdown run gave Westfield a 7-0 lead with 8:23 to go in the first quarter.
The Eagles couldnbt sustain their drive, punting the ball after a short period of time. A pooch kick by Jacob Poole was big, pinning the Mustangs down inside their 3 yard line.
Cy-Falls held the Mustangs and forced them to punt.
On the ensuing punt return Cy- Fallbs Anthony Brown field the ball at the 46 yard line of the Mustangs and used the sideline to get past defenders for the 46 yard touchdown run. On the punt the Mustangs seemed like they loss location of the ball, while Brown kept track of the ball and went untouched to the end zone.
After trading stalled drives the Mustangs bounce back with a 76 yard touchdown run from Morning, he exploding up the middle and out ran the defense to the end zone.
The Eagles were four and out on their next possession but a fumbled punt return by Westfieldb s Sampson gave Cy-Falls an opportunity with the ball inside the Mustangs 40 yard line. Cy-Falls had no answer for the speedy elusive Morning.
The Mustangs enjoyed great field position most of the first half.
They made the most of a 49 yard drive with Dotson breaking through for a 7 yard touchdown run, taking their biggest lead of the game at 26-7.
With 2:44 to go in the half the Eagles couldnbt take advantage of an opportunity down at the Mustangs 5 yard line. A deflected pass that fell incomplete at the goal line ended the drive.
b I thought we really prepared for this game, we studied really hard this week.b bBut it just didnbt come out the way we wanted,b said Cy-Fallbs receiver Dean Johnson.
In the second half Westfield would add a couple more scores to seal the deal.
