Morning's rushing performance sinks the Eagles

Westfield used the running of Jamarcus Morning to take the air out of the Cy-Fall Eagles 40-21 Friday night at Berry Stadium. Morning rushed for 200 yards on 24 carries while showing his versatility, running up the middle with power, bouncing to the outside with speed, breaking tackles and serving as receiving threat out of the back field. A commanding 26-7 halftime lead was enough to shut the door on the Eagles.
Even with all the penalties and mistakes, Westfield looked like a team to be reckoned with. Quarterback Jacoby Walker led the way exposing the Eagles defense. He went to the air when he wasn’t handing the ball off to Dotson and Morning.
There was no drop off on the Mustangs defense with linebackers Aaron Harris, Kenneth Dickie, Roland Hannah and nose guard Desmond Jackson. All played sparingly in the season opener.
b?We played fast and hard, we all played together and thats what made everything go.b? b?They tried to run through one hole but they coul?t get there, because we had Desmond Johnson there (the nose guard) and the defensive line.b? b?That forced them to the outside and we were able to make some stops said,b? Kenneth Dickie, Westfields linebacker.
Later in district play, a focal point will be on the Mustangs when they face rival Klein Forest, both teams share similarity in styles.
The mustangs took their first drive 54 yards in 12 plays. An 18 yard pass to Jordan Sampson from Walker sparked the offense, moving the ball in Cy-Falls territory at the 34 yard line. Mornings carries aided the drive moving the offense closer toward the goal line. Dotsons three yard touchdown run gave Westfield a 7-0 lead with 8:23 to go in the first quarter.
The Eagles coul?t sustain their drive, punting the ball after a short period of time. A pooch kick by Jacob Poole was big, pinning the Mustangs down inside their 3 yard line.
Cy-Falls held the Mustangs and forced them to punt.
On the ensuing punt return Cy-Falls Anthony Brown field the ball at the 46 yard line of the Mustangs and used the sideline to get past defenders for the 46 yard touchdown run. On the punt the Mustangs seemed like they loss location of the ball, while Brown kept track of the ball and went untouched to the end zone.
After trading stalled drives the Mustangs bounce back with a 76 yard touchdown run from Morning, he exploding up the middle and out ran the defense to the end zone.
The Eagles were four and out on their next possession but a fumbled punt return by Westfields Sampson gave Cy-Falls an opportunity with the ball inside the Mustangs 40 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, running back Pierre Lucas picked up 14 yards up the middle of field before he fumbled the ball back to Westfield.
The Mustangs took possession on their 20 yard line. One play later it was the man of the hour, Morning racing 80 yards for his second touchdown of the evening. What a turn of events. New score 19-7.
b?We ju didn’tt play well.b? b?Westfield got after our tails and did a great job tonight, hats off to them.b? b?When we executed good things happen, when we di?t bad things happened,b? said Cy-Falls Head Coach Raffield.
Cy-Falls had no answer for the speedy elusive Morning.
The Mustangs enjoyed great field position most of the first half.
They made the most of a 49 yard drive with Dotson breaking through for a 7 yard touchdown run, taking their biggest lead of the game at 26-7.
With 2:44 to go in the half the Eagles coul?t take advantage of an opportunity down at the Mustangs 5 yard line. A deflected pass that fell incomplete at the goal line ended the drive.
b?I thought we really prepared for this game, we studied really hard this week.b? b?But it ju didn’tt come out the way we wanted,b? said Cy-Falls receiver Dean Johnson.
In the second half Westfield would add a couple more scores to seal the deal.
