With more than 1,200 schools that currently compete in Texas High School Football, the UIL talks about expanding to 6A. There have been talks of moving to class 6A in the pass but nothing never materialized. The UIL said that, it would equal the playing field of the 245 schools that compete in 5A and put more teams in the playoffs.
Lake Travis got pass DeSoto 42-39 to wins their first ever 7 on 7 State Championship. The Cavaliers were led by WR Connor Floyd who picked up the MVP Award to go along with his 8 receptions, four of them went for touchdowns.
Basketball News
Yates Basketball team to visit the white house. The Lions of Jack Yates high school who recently won the nation’s top spot in five major polls will get a chance to meet President Obama.
Yates Guard Joseph Young asked Providence to release him from his letter of intent. The third team Parade All-American wants to stay close to home to be near his ailing aunt who raised him while father Michael Young played basketball overseas.
Guard Brandon Knight and Cy-Fair’s Chiney Ogwumike were honored as the top male and female National High School Athletes of the year by ESPY. Power forward Ogwumike finished third in her class with 3.4 GPA, started four years for the Cy-Fair Bobcats and helped bring home a state championship. She will team up with big sister at Stanford next season. Knight averaged 31 points a contest while leading Pine Crest of Fort Lauderdale, Florida to the 3A state title game. He will play with the Wildcats of Kentucky next season.
