A few surprises as ranked teams shuffle

Among surprise losses in Class 6A top 10 rankings were No. 1 DeSoto and No. 10 Manvel. Friday night the Mavericks dropped a heated contest, 29-26 to Houston Area power Westfield. A fiery Arlington Martin squad torched the Eagles 46-26.
DeSoto’s situation will need to improve quickly with star-studded, multi-talented IMG Academy coming to town on Saturday. After losing to American Heritage, FL last week in a game that doesn’t count against its record, the Ascenders ran through a good Miramar squad 38-14 on national TV Sunday.
In a battle of teams crossing state lines, build as California vs. Texas, No. 8 Euless Trinity upset No. 3 nationally ranked De La Salle 26-21.
Arlington Martin, Euless Trinity, and Westfield made jumps in the rankings with impressive wins.
Class 5A No. 2 Cedar Park avenged last season’s title-game loss to No.1 Aledo by holding the Bearcats to 13 points while scoring 31. No. 6 Mansfield Timberview dropped its opener, 33-28 to No. 3 Ennis, No. 8 John Tyler loss to Plano, 35-17 and No. 10 Lufkin loss a frustrating one-point, contest, 21-20 to arch rival Longview.
In 4A action, No. 6 Stephenville loss to Venice, Fl., 38-8, and No. 7 Carthage loss 24-11 to Hallsville.
