Longtime rivals pack undefeated district records into battle

On the field this coming Friday night, Kinkaid will attempt to extend a three year winning streak of annual rival St. Johns at Rice Stadium.  Both come with undefeated district records
St. John’s last defeated the Falcon’s 24-19 in 2007.
The long running rivalry dates back to 1951, which took place on St. John’s field.  Kinkaid, which was in existence long before, leads the series 36-24.  But St. Johns recorded the first three wins from 1951-53, outscoring Mavericks 75-12.  1951 also marked the largest margin of victory between the three years, as St. John’s came away with a 49-6 win.
Kinkaid currently (9-0, 5-0), bounced back in 1954 with a 32-7 victory and went on to tie the series at three, with wins in ’55 and ‘56.  St. Johns (8-2, 5-0) will in search of its first win in the series since 07.
The rich rivalry moved to Rice Stadium in 1979 to accommodate a huge crowd that have reached a capacity of 20,000 plus.
