Second half offensive production lifts Dragons

Three second half Southlake Carroll
touchdowns surrenders’ Panthers

Arlington – You can say Southlake Carroll has Colleyville’s number, in twelve meetings against the Dragons; Heritage has yet to win one.
A defensive struggle took care of the first half, led by the Dragons Mac McGuire’s two field goals, 6-3.
Southlake Carroll (9-3) advanced to the Quarter Final Round of the playoffs by defeating Colleyville Heritage 34-17 for the fourth time in five seasons in Class 5A Region II Area Round of the Playoffs Saturday night at Cowboy Stadium. The Dragons will meet Abilene at 4 p.m. Saturday at Cowboy Stadium.
“First of all I’m so proud of our players and our coaches,” said Hal Wasson, Southlake Carroll’s Coach. They continue to get better each and every week, I’m proud of them for that. They showed tremendous character the whole season and they responded today. We get ready for the next day, we go by the 24 hour rule at our place. 24 hours to enjoy it. We know we got a big test next week and we’re very thankful we can continue the journey.
In the second half Carroll’s offense began to click but not before Panthers put together a two play 76 drive finished on Jeff Calvert’s 74 yard keeper to go up 10-6 for the first time since the first quarter.
But after that the Dragons scored 21 unanswered points to take a 27-10 lead. Paul Stevenson got things started with a three yard rushing score, on 4th down Shaun Hoagland who had an interception also scored on a 31 yard touchdown reception from Kenny Hill and a 12 yard run by Stevenson.
Heritage would cut the led to ten when Trent Dennington went around the right side for a six yard touchdown run. But after a fail onside kick the Dragons controlled the clock.
“First of all I’m proud of our guys for the year they had. I think we fought all year even today, we just couldn’t get it done today they out played us. We didn’t get any breaks to go our way and we didn’t overcome adversity like we had this year. It wasn’t a lack of effort we just didn’t get done today. They were able to do what people been trying to do to them for years, kept the ball away from us, we had some miscues,” Colleyville Heritage Coach Mike Fuller.
