No. 1 vs. No. 2 to be settled Saturday. Seven SEC teams ranked in top 25 to show strength of conference
Its November and post season is near for some. But for Alabama and LSU it’s a chance to settle the No 1 College Football debate. Who’s No 1?
Perhaps one of the most anticipated regular season matchups of the season is on the line Saturday evening, with the Tide, No.2, playing host to the No.1 LSU Tigers at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.
It marks the first time No 1 vs. No 2 will face off in the SEC. Only two other times, have to two met under such circumstances. In 1972 and ’73 both shared undefeated records before meeting.
Strength of schedule is one of the reasons both have propelled into the top two spots. Alabama and LSU with matching (8-0,5-0 SEC) records and have won each of its game’s by double figures.
The SEC is widely recognized as one of the top caliber football conferences in college football. It features seven teams that are ranked among the top 25 polls according to ESPN College Rankings. Behind the top two, No.7 Arkansas (7-1), No. 9 South Carolina (7-1), No 11 Clemson (8-1), No. 18 Georgia (6-2) and No. 22 Auburn (6-3).
Most believe that the SEC teams could play for a championship yearly, if they didn’t share the same conference.
