Jack’s brilliance on both sides of the ball too much for Trinity

Seattle – Nathan Derider intercepted a game saving pass in overtime, Budda Baker’s 14-yard Touchdown run and Myles Jack big play ability lifted the Bellevue Wolverines over the Euless Trinity Trojans by a score of 31-24 in a thrilling season opening showdown Thursday night at Memorial Stadium.
He was everywhere the ball was, UCLA’s LB commit Myles jack, a showcase of talent that recorded one big play after another on sides of the ball. The gifted senior played lights out from both the linebacker and running back position.
Trailing 24-16 with less than six minutes left, the Trojan’s used its power running game to move down the field and tie the game after Remel Newton’s four-yard TD run which left 4:35 to play in regulation. Neither team could manage much after, until overtime.
Bellevue took first possession in overtime. Three plays later, RB Budda Baker split the middle, cut left and scored on a 14-yard run, which held up for the win. The game ended on Trinity’s first play from scrimmage, when backup quarterback Christian Hammack’s pass was intercepted by Derider.
With the win, the Wolverines record its third such victory over one of the nation’s best programs. The first, a 39-20 victory, came in September of 2004, halting (Concord, Ca) De La Salle’s 12-year, 151 game winning streak which was the longest of any streak, in any sport, of any level. The following year Southern California power, Long Beach Poly fell to the Wolverines.
Bellevue, who has won eight state championships in the state of Washington, scored on three of its first four drives to grab a 21-16 halftime lead.
