Impressive showings by Cashman and Dell in Texan training camp
At the head of training camp, the Texans jumped into action. It’s late July, and tasks are heating like the Texas sun.
The offense struggled on its opening quest—an interception on the first play of scrimmage. Still, it’s the fifth day of training camp and time to correct mistakes.
Linebacker Blake Cashman stunned some with his coverage ability. Cashman intercepted two of Stroud’s passes in two consecutive days.
Besides Cashman’s impressive showing, the Texans like what it sees in receiver Tank Dell. Dell has performed exceptionally. He has the speed to create separation from defensive backs. While Dell improves on running routes, Coach Ryans speaks highly of his progress, which helps with the need at the position.
Dell played at Independence Community College in 2019-20, reeling in 52 receptions for 766 yards. After, he spent three seasons at the University of Houston.
Coach Ryan continues to seek hitters. It’s part of the reason the defense is dominating training camp. A goal-line stand closed out practice on Monday. But not before cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. intercepted Stroud.
The defense played well against the run in the red zone while the secondary blanketed routes. The defense could be a difference maker this season.
