It’s livestock and rodeo time in Harris County. The City of Houston is home to the largest livestock show and Rodeo in the nation.  Over 2.5 million people buy tickets to the three-week long event each spring. It will kick off on February 27th and runs through March 18th.
The longtime running Houston Livestock Show was established in 1932.  The creation of the establishment surrendered to the name of Houston Fat Stock Show, before the renaming of “The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo,” which continue to grow each year.
Rodeo events open with bull riding, barrel racing, wagon racing, tie-down roping and many more competitions.  These are easily some of the crowd favorites. The thrills can be heard throughout NRG Stadium since 2003 as fans show its appreciation, cheering emotionally. It was previously held at the Houston Astrodome.
Other exciting events which capture the youth in action are calf roping, calf scramble, pig racing and sheep riding.  Each can be a challenging task. With three categories, Junior Show, Open Show and Youth Show, you will see a variety of animals ranging from Dairy Cattle, Goats, Sheep Dogs and rabbits.
2017 proved to the best year for attendance as it reached a record high of 2,611,176.
The rodeo also features some of the top recording artists worldwide.  Daily, throughout the livestock show and rodeo, a band is presented to close out the evening. This does its part in bolstering ticket sales and attendance while fans embrace the rare opportunity to double or triple its entertainment when the lights dim as songwriters hit the sizable rotating stage for a night of enjoyment.
