Texas Southern University and Prairie View are favorites to win the SWAC West Division Crown. The inside track could come as early as September 2nd when the two square off at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston.

The Panthers defeated Texas Southern University 40-23 last season.

Again, quarterback Andrew Body will lead the Tigers.

During the spring game this past April, Body could not take part because of an injury sustained in last season’s regular season final against Alabama A&M. That left the battle to Jace Wilson and Tison Hill, who stood out during spring practice among several quarterbacks.

According to coach David Marshall, the defensive line came together, showing signs of progress throughout training camp. The staff has yet to correct the offensive line’s lack of depth. Two fresh faces and two veterans could help shake up the Tigers’ offense.

Overall, Head Coach Clarence McKinney was delighted with the circumstances of the Tigers’ play. Still, McKinney admitted the team needs to work to strengthen other areas, such as offensive timing.

The season will let us know how the Tigers stack up in the areas of question.
