Thomas’ three touchdowns lead Klein Collins

Klein – Jordan Thomas’ natural position is safety/receiver, but an open void at quarterback meant switching to fill that position.
On Friday night at Klein Memorial Stadium, Thomas scored three touchdowns to lead Klein Collins to a 35-12 non-district victory over the Eisenhower Eagles.
The Northwestern commit unselfishly moved to quarterback this season to fill what graduation vacated.  Thomas outscored the Eagles alone, 18-12, accounting for 135 total yards, including scoring runs of one, two and four yards.
“We finally got our offense going, last week it wasn’t too hot,” Thomas said.  “But this week it was better, but we’re never satisfied. We made some big plays here and there but we still need to finish.”
Tre White led the Tigers in rushing on 19 carries in support of 109 yards. Earnest Watts who split time at running back and receiver finished with 149 all-purpose yards and a three-yard rushing touchdown.
Thanks to a huge game opening 63-yard return from Watts, Thomas used a short field to put Klein Collins (1-1) on top early.  Six-plays later, the quarterback knifed through Eisenhower’s defense, covering four yards for the score, as Daniel Gomez added the extra point to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead.
The Eagles’ (0-2) predominately rushing game found no running room against the quick attacking Tigers. Under a heavy rush for most of the contest, its passing game was not much help, as Devlin Isadore completed 3 of 8 passes for 44 yards.
Stopping the downhill running of the Tigers was a feat and of itself.
“For the most part, the defensive line was doing their job, but from what I seen in the box they were coming through the middle and bouncing back out,” Eisenhower’s Defensive End Isaiah Santiago explained.  “I think we just got it handed to us tonight.  We’ll just take this as a learning block and do better next week.”
Running Back Darron Jones tacked on 72 rushing yards on nine carries. Star Tailback Donald Catalon, a Texas commit, was limited to 20 yards on five carries.
Klein Collins’ senior linebacker Casey Massey was Johnny-on-the-spot with eight first-half tackles.
“I was just doing what we’ve been coached to do all week,” added Klein Collins Linebacker Casey Massey.  “They have a good team and a great running game.  We knew if we stopped their running game, their passing game wasn’t that strong.”
Leading 21-0 at the half, Klein Collins never let up, reflecting back on last week’s season-opening 21-0 loss to Cy-Woods.
Thomas directed the Tigers on three more scoring drives before Eisenhower scored its first touchdown on a one-yard plunge by running back Trevion Roberts with 6:41 left. At that time the game was all but over.
Roberts added a three-yard rushing touchdown as time expired.
