Trojans Tranquilize the Wildcats

Arlington – Tusan’s TD run from three yards out on 4th and 2 was the cushion they needed because of Plano’s late TD, to dig out a win 41-38 over the Plano Wildcats in the third game of a quadruple header at Cowboy Stadium.
Down by three (31-28) early in the third quarter the Trojans converted two 4th downs, one that helped produce a 7 yard touchdown reception to Carter with 1:26 to go in the third quarter.
“If their in the playoffs their all good. We don’t know any other way to play Plano, but right down to the wire. We played them three times and the best I could remember they all were right down to the last second. I was expecting a 4th quarter game, I really was. I told them right before the game it was going to be a battle,” said Trinity Head Football Coach Steve Linweaver.
Plano came out firing on all cylinders, jumping out to a 14-0 lead. Any thoughts of last week’s 88 points scored against Flower Mound in blowout fashion were vanished by these fighting Wildcats.
Jared Kirchmeir returned the opening kickoff to the 49 of Trinity. A few plays later Connor threw a strike to Robinson who had to reach over the defender for the grab in the end zone with 9:50 to go in the first quarter.
Trinity (10-2) advances to face Arlington Martin Friday at Pennington Field at noon in the region I semifinals.
A three and out for Trinity gave the ball back to the Wildcats. Starting in great field position at the 46, the pass catch combo of Connor to Holt kept the wildcats chewing up yards. With 8:33 to go in first quarter Kirchmeier went in from 3 yards out to give Plano a 14-0 lead.
A 54 yard drive put the Trojans on the board, a 30 yard in and around touchdown run by Carter cut the lead in half 14-7.
Good fortune helped Trinity to tie the game when Connor’s quick pass deflected off of Holt’s hands into an optimistic Bobby Brown who was charging Holt while the ball went in the air and landed in Brown’s hand as he raced untouched to the end zone for a 43 yard pick six to draw even at 14.
Hubbard’s 61 yard keeper gave the Trojans the lead at 21-14 for a short period with 11:07 to go in the second quarter.
Most of the second half the score would go back and forth.
Plano responded with a 79 yard drive that was finished off with a 6 yard touchdown pass to Williams which tied the game at 21.
Down by three (31-28) early in the third quarter the Trojans converted two 4th downs, one came on a fake punt in which Carter took the snap and found running room toward the right sideline. That eventually produced a 7 yard touchdown reception to Carter with 1:26 to go in the third quarter. The Trojans regain the lead 34-31.
A missed 35 yard field goal attempt sailed wide left by Plano’s Pierce that would have tied the game at 34 with 7:37 to go.
Plano’s onside kick fail when Carter covered the ball to put the game away.
