Katy Tigers, the area’s No. 1 rank team continues to steam roll the opposition. There latest win included a 63-10 thumping of Mayde Creek to increase their record to (7-0, 4-0). After a loss in last season’s state final 28-17 to Abilene, the Tigers are gunning for a 7th state title.
Brenham Cubs (7-0, 4-0), the No. 2 area ranked in class 4A team kept their district hopes in line after defeating previously undefeated Montgomery Bears (6-1, 3-1) 31-26 Friday night in Brenham in front of a packed house. The Cubs also have high hopes of returning to the state finals after losing to Aledo 35-21 last season.
In College Football
The Longhorns surprised 5th ranked Nebraska 20-13 in an emotional filled game, with loss the Cornhuskers fall to (5-1)but the Horns win wasn’t the biggest upset of the weekend, that honor went to the Wisconsin Badgers who shocked the top ranked Ohio Buckeyes 31-18. For the second straight week the No. 1 team went down in defeat.
Rice’s 34-31 victory was enough to return the favor for last year’s lost to the Houston Cougars. The Cougars fail to convert a 4th and inches when QB David Piland was unable to get a handle on the snap, resulting in a turnover.
OU to the top of the first BCS Standings ahead of Oregon and Boise State. The BCS standings were released on Sunday.
Pro Football
The Texans (4-2) moved back into the winning column with 34-31 comeback win over the Kansas City Chiefs (3-2) Sunday afternoon at Reliant Park Stadium. Three 4th quarter touchdowns was the difference, though losing starting middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans for the rest of season. Ryan was later evaluated and was said to have a ruptured left Achilles’ tendon.
Cowboys dropped to a disappointing (1-4) on the season after losing to the Minnesota Vikings(2-3) 24-21. The Boys shot them selves’ in the foot with mistakes, turnovers and costly penalties.
