Just as in his days before he turned pro, Tiger Woods cemented his name in the history books by turning in a historical performance, winning the Masters at Augusta National on Sunday evening.
Not since 2005 have Woods walked away wearing the green jacket. The victory gives Woods his 15th Major, three shy of Jack Nicklaus (18) and his fifth Masters Title.
Woods finished the tournament 13 under par, one stroke ahead of Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Xander Schauffele after sinking a short bogey putt on the 18th green.
Woods groundwork set the tone and aided his cause as he squeezed back in among the leaders when he sank three birdies over his last six holes. That pushed him ahead of Francesco as continued to battle Johnson and Koepka.
“There were so many guys who had a chance to win,” Woods explained. The leaderboard was absolutely packed, and everyone was playing well.”
Outside of the exciting competition on the greens, Woods family were all smiles as his son and mother greeted him on the 18th hole with a tight hug.
Away from golf, Woods has battled several issues over the years. Including four back surgeries and the idea of not knowing if he would ever compete up to the level he once played.
On Saturday, Woods spoke about his putts not falling, but he explained; eventually, they will fall with the continuation of consistent putting.
Throughout his college days, Woods, one of the top amateur golfers in the world, grabbed headlines nationwide. Once on the Tour, he won his first Masters in 1997, 12 strokes ahead of Tom Kite.
