Cy-Fair eliminates Katy, Cy-Woods Sweeps their way into Semis

Collins sets the
stage for Cy-Woods

Youth combine with talent and great chemistry have been the driving force behind the Cy-Woods winning success this season.
Sophomore Setter, Chloe Collins was all over the floor setting the pace as Cy-Woods (43-2) defeated the Seven Lakes Spartans 25-16, 25-16, 25-17and 15-11 in Class 5A Region III Quarterfinals at the Campbell Center Tuesday night.
With the win the Wildcats move on to the Region III Semifinals where they will face Clear Creek Friday at the Campbell Center.
The much stronger athletic Wildcat team had little trouble out dueling Seven Lakes. Collins was spectacular in getting the entire team involved early.
“To be bless with these kids is the greatest gift ever, for them to be as young as they are and for our number one senior (Daniela Arenas) to go out a couple of weeks ago and for them to rise above and rally around her and do this for her speaks volumes for them,” said Ashley Ahlfinger Cy-Woods Coach.
Sarah Neilson led Cy-Woods with 10 kills.
Seven Lakes (30-15) battle back several times to pull within two to four points before leading in game three 4-3 early on. With returning players, the Spartans will have a chance to build on the first district title and playoff accomplishments for next season.
“They have worked so hard and have put so much into it, not just with their work but what they’ve done physically and emotionally. We just didn’t have it tonight. We started out missing serves, we had four missed serves in the first game and just those little things that we weren’t doing,” said Farah Holder Seven Lakes Coach.
The Bobcats got a great effort from Outside Hitter Emily Wright who finished with 21 kills as the Cy-Fair Bobcats (33-8) took out Katy 32-30,25-17,25-23,25-20. The Bobcats advance to the Class 5A Region III Semifinals to face Clear Lake Friday at the Campbell Center.
The Tigers (26-11) took the bobcats to five games before falling. A youthful returning team, katy could be a force next season.
