The defensive effort of the Wolves Eric Alfaro, Jonathan Kam and Ivan Vasquez held Macarthur to one goal. At times the Generals penetrated into Westside’s territory, mostly in the second half but were unable to come away with more than one score. The Wolves did a great job blocking and beating Macarthur to the point of attack.
“It’s real important because we want to go far and we have a young team, people under estimate and we don’t want to do that,” Westside’s forward Sevak Marout said.
Westside Wolves (17-3-1) got four goals from Sevak Marout to defeat the Macarthur Generals 5-1 Monday night at Thorn Stadium. With the win they advance to the next round of the playoffs where they will face the winner of the Katy/Elsik game to be played Tuesday evening.
“The score does not indicate how the game went. The score 5-1 but the game was a lot closer than what the score indicates. When you come in Macarthur is going to give us a very good game,” Westside’s Coach Sakis Brown said.
In the first half Westside kept the ball in Macarthur’s territory which led to a 4-0 halftime lead.
Marout picked up three of his four goals in the first half while Adan Orantes scored one.
The only bright spot for Macarthur (6-9-3) came at the 17:47 mark. It was a brilliant play that was set up by sophomore forward Samuel Guevara who worked the ball down the left sideline from midfield and made a great inside pass to Benjamin Saenz who laced the open shot to the net.
“They have a good team, they have a lot of skillful players, they have a lot of experience on their team and we knew we were going have our hands full. We Knew from the very begging of course records at this time of the year don’t mean anything. Just because we won our district title in our respective district that doesn’t mean were going to come out here and walk through Macarthur simply because they finished fourth in their district,” Westside Coach Brown said.
